Desert Lamp, Tall (Caramel Buff)

Inspired by the layered sediment revealed as desert landscapes erode, this stoneware table lamp carries the quiet rhythm of shifting earth. Its form emerges from a process that blends nerikomi and clay marbling, where three stoneware bodies are wedged, split, and rejoined until their colors drift into one another like strata rearranged by time. Every turn of the slab reveals a new, unrepeatable pattern — a gentle honoring of irregularity, of the way nature resists perfect symmetry. Subtle traces of the hand remain, softening the lamp’s graphic movement with a human pulse.

The custom linen lampshade was created as a companion to this base — an echo rather than an addition. Shibori‑dyed in deep indigo, the fabric is folded and bound so the dye flows along the grain of the box pleats, settling into wave‑like patterns that feel both intentional and free. The raw, unhemmed edges are left exposed, a small act of liberation from rigid finishing, allowing the shade to retain the looseness and breath of cloth shaped by hand. When illuminated, the pleats and dye pattern create a shifting interplay of shadow and light, as if the fabric itself were remembering the movement of water or wind.

Dark brown twisted cloth cord, antique brass hardware, and a dimmer control complete the piece, grounding its organic gestures with warm, functional detail.
